General Statement
Planet aims to be of use to practitioners in the GEES disciplines. It is disseminated to all GEES departments in the UK and some overseas, alongside professional bodies. Planet is also available to download via our website. Hard copy circulation is typically between 1500 and 2000 per edition.
Quality Assurance
Planet is quality assured through in-house editing by members of the editorial board. Papers are peer reviewed, submitted papers will normally be refereed by one member of the referee panel or editorial board.
Please note that all articles may be subject to minor in-house revisions, without the permission of the author(s).
What does the editorial board look for?
The editorial board welcomes material of interest to academics and support staff in the field of teaching and learning across the disciplines of Geography, Earth and Environmental Sciences. Generic submissions from cognate disciplines and those with an international dimension are also invited. Planet also welcomes learning and teaching 'work in progress'.
Contributions can include case studies of learning and teaching practice, software and book reviews, forum commentary, project reports and letters to the editor. Articles must be no more than 2000 words, we also accept shorter case study style articles of up to 1000 words.
Submission Criteria:
All submissions should adhere to the following criteria. Articles should:
- be a maximum of 2000 words
- be in Arial font, size 12, submitted in Microsoft Word.
- make explicit why the work is relevant, important and/or innovative
- provide an abstract of no more than 150 words
- provide a conclusion
- have clear headings and signposts
- highlight practical aspects
- provide a context for the work e.g. module name, number of students, assessment criteria etc.
- provide evidence to support successes and difficulties
- draw upon other relevant pedagogic literature
- supplement text with visuals where possible, e.g. tables and photographs. Please ensure you have copyright for these. Visuals need to be of print quality, further guidance on this can be provided by the Subject Centre.
- use the GEES publication referencing system.
- provide contact details, including department(s), Institutions(s), and email addresses
- explain any specialist terms and where acronyms are used, their full expression should be given initially.
- not use footnotes or endnotes
- provide Figure/Table/Image titles in full in the text, and under the diagram. For example " please see Figure 1"
- include authors name(s) and institutions at the start of the article and email address at the end.

Deadlines
The deadlines for Planet are listed below:
- 31st January 2012 (Planet 27)
- We anticipate that Planet 28 will be published through the new HEA process so please do continue to write articles beyond January 2012 - Further details will be announced in the New Year.
Due to Planet's popularity we advise authors to submit articles as soon as possible and not wait until the deadline.
How to Submit?
All articles with any accompanying figures, tables, diagrams and photographs, should be submitted in electronic format to:

GEES Subject Centre Planet Copyright Agreement
If you wish to contribute to Planet You will need to complete and sign the GEES Subject Centre Planet Copyright Agreement form and return it to the editor, before publication. Please download one of the following formats Word or RTF and then print off a copy, sign it and return it with any submission.
