Maltese Habitats
Maritime Fringe
On gently sloping rocky shores, halophytic vegetation grows in isolated patches in the shallow saline soil which accumulates in pockets in the rock.
The species present mainly form part of the Mediterranean vegetational community called the Crithmo-Limonietum.
In the Maltese variants of this biocoenosis are found such plants as the Ragworts (Senecio leucanthemifolium, the Maltese Sea Chamomile (Anthemis urvilleana) and the Shrubby Glasswort (Arthrocnemum glaucum).
