Exploring the use Newsfilm Online in the GEES disciplines
Online Exemplars (subject tutorials) have been developed by academics using materials from the Newsfilm Online archive. This archive features selected news from the ITN/Reuters archives and video playback and downloading are available to staff and students at subscribing UK universities and colleges (the Newsfilm Online archive is an output of the JISC Digitisation Programme).
The following are project reports from the GEES disciplines:
- Using popular media to enhance learning, teaching and assessment of geography in higher education: An exploration of the Newsfilm Online Clip Archive (240kb Word file) - Dr Michael Leyshon, Prof Catherine Brace - University of Exeter
- Ethiopian Famine Tutorial (60kb Word file) - Dr Darren Stewart Crook - University of Hertfordshire
This was a collaborative project between the GEES Subject Centre, the Subject Centre for Sociology, Anthropology and Politics (C-SAP), the Subject Centre for Geography, Earth and Environmental Sciences (GEES), and the Centre for Excellence in Teaching and Learning in Reusable Learning Objects (RLO-CETL). The Project commenced in April 2007, and finished in March 2009. It is funded under the JISC Distributed e-Learning Programme Phase II. More project reports from other disciplines are available on the main project website.
