2. Determination of niche breadth and niche overlap
This involves:
1. The preparation of data sheets for each species involved in this part of the investigation. These are subsequently referred to as selected species.
2. The construction of a transect extending from the shoreline to the upper shore. The transect should be perpendicular to the shoreline. By a transect is meant the marking of a line using a tape along which samples will be taken and observations made.
3. The division of the transect line into intervals each of which should be five metres in length. The five metre length of the transect line interval represents one side of a virtual quadrat measuring 5 metres by 5 metres.
