Medium size evergreen tree, with paired needle like leaves. Male and female cones are borne on the same tree. Male cones are yellowish and hold the pollen, while females are reddish-purple and produce seeds. Seed matures after three years.
Typical Mediterranean species. Wild stock extinct, but re-introduced. Common.
