Shrub. Leaves shaped like spoon handle, smooth and rather fleshy. Invlucral bracts are smooth, without spines or bristles. Flowers mainly between may and july.
Grows on cliffs in the south of Malta and Gozo.
Often cultivated in public gardens and centre strips. Genus and species both endemic. The national plant. Scarce in the wild.
