Medium sized tree with rough grey trunk and numerous branches covered with small leaves which resemble those of Cypress. Flowers very small in dense white or pale pink inflorescences. Flowers mainly in spring, also in winter and summer.
Grows near the sea especially at mouths of valleys and salt marshes. Tolerates sea spray. Indigenous on Gozo and Comino, and probably also on the island of Malta. Common but indigenous trees are rare.
