Pauline started her academic career as a geographer with research interests in hydrology and geomorphology. Her work has since evolved to concentrate on learning and teaching, with the GEES disciplines as a main focus, but she is increasingly working with colleagues across the disciplines.
In the past ten years her focus has shifted to learning, teaching and enterprise issues, with particular emphasis on developing innovative teaching and pedagogical research, and encouraging colleagues to engage in pedagogical research. In the last six years as ProDean for the Faculty of Environment at Leeds, which includes the 3 GEES disciplines and Transport Studies, she has been responsible for all aspects of learning and teaching quality assurance, promoting and enhancing student learning and the student experience. In parallel to this role, she has been Director of the Leeds White Rose Centre for Excellence in Teaching and Learning of Enterprise (http://www.leeds.ac.uk/wrcetle/). Pauline’s contribution towards the development of learning and teaching has also been recognised through the award of a National Teaching Fellowship in 2002, and a Higher Education Academy Senior Teaching Fellowship in the first round in 2007.
